Halloween Parade Gets Interrupted… TWICE!!!

 October 26, 2014

Sunday October 26th was no ordinary day for the 71 crews! As members were gathering at the Station to get ready to partake in the annual Upper Perk Halloween Parade, Crews were alerted to assist Station 65 (Pennsburg Fire Co.) with Field 71 and Squirt 71 on a working woods fire to the rear of Saint Phillip Neri Church. Field 71 and Lieutenant 71 (Haney) took to the street almost immediately. Chief 65 (Seip) arrived and found nearly 2 1/2 to 3 acres burning and spreading rapidly. 65 Command advised Field 71 to enter off Klinerd Road and proceed to the rear of the rectory to try and gain access to the quickly spreading fire. Field 71 arrived and proceeded with instructions clearing a path through dense brush to the back side of the flames and put a quick stop on what could have been disastrous fire. Crews remained on scene hitting hot spots and cutting timbers for approximately 1 hr and 40 min. before returning to the parade.

Units on Scene:

About an hour and a half through the parade Squad 71 was alerted to assist Station 42 (Green Lane) with the accident with injuries. Squad 71 arrived and assisted 42 in securing the vehicle before taking up and going available a half hour later.
